If you're new to Texas and have a car we highly recommend a trip to Callahans General Store - it's located to the east basically between the house and the airport (address: 501 S Hwy 183, Austin, TX 78741) It's a pretty awesome, very Texan, experience especially on the weekend. They have bands and livestock, cowboys and cowboy boots.. it's just fun. On the left side of the store you can walk thru and see where they sell chicken, birds, roosters, feed etc.
